Geocache Description:

Shopping on the West Side? You're NUTS!

Interesting story behind this entire West side retail development. Way back when, we'd sit down at a local pub with a group loosley referred to as "the regulars" and discuss, oh, "things", I'd guess you say for lack of a better term. One of the regulars had an outlandish scheme. He bought up all the property Northwest of the intersection of S.R. 37 and West Third street. "You're nuts!", we'd all said. At that time traffic would back up all the way into town every afternoon as everyone tried to get through the ponderous intersection with its confusing array of stoplight and turn arrows. "No one goes out there unless they have to" we'd warned, "and then its a nightmare!" But then the seemingly endless overpass project got done. Traffic started moving freely through the area. Our friend sank everything he had into getting some big anchor stores in and selling outlots to various restaraunt franchises. Some of the stores stood empty for a while, but eventually just about every store and lot had a viable business going on. Anyway, he's still around and still a pretty decent guy. Guess he wasn't as nuts as we all thought. As an aside: Note the bizarre, giant swinging needle looking sculpture with attendant bench nearby this cache site. The planning and zoning folks insisted that he put in some kind of family recreation area to get this project approved. And... uh... that's it. Anyway, have fun looking for this little micro. I don't think it's going to drive you nuts. The air crackles with energy, though. Have fun.
