Bartolomeo Cristofori (1655-1732)
Il padovano Bartolomeo Cristofori è l’inventore del pianoforte. Lo strumento fu ideato a Firenze quando Cristofori era dal 1690 al servizio del Granduca di Toscana Ferdinando de’ Medici come costruttore e manutentore di strumenti musicali, tra cui la vasta collezione di clavicembali del Granduca, grazie alla quale ebbe abbondanti mezzi a disposizione su cui esercitare la sua arte. Cristofori ebbe l’idea di sostituire le penne del clavicembalo con dei martelletti e di dotare la meccanica di “scappamento” per svincolare il tasto una volta percossa la corda. Cristofori chiamò il suo strumento “Gravicembalo con il piano e il forte”. Dell’invenzione, avvenuta probabilmente nel 1709, venne dato ampio resoconto nel 1711 sul “Giornale dei Letterati d’Italia”, la più importante pubblicazione del tempo. Lo strumento fu subito apprezzato da Scarlatti e Handel che ne facilitarono la diffusione, specialmente in Germania, anche J.S.Bach lo conobbe e suggerì a Cristofori alcune modifiche per migliorane il suono. Dei circa 20 pianoforti costruiti da Cristofori ne sopravvivono due: uno si trova a Roma (Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti Musicali) e uno a Lipsia (Musik Instrumenten Museum der Universitat). Allla galleria dell’Accademia, situata accanto al Conservatorio Cherubini a Firenze è conservato il primo strumento costruito da Cristofori: una spinetta ovale del 1690. Sono quindi 300 anni che lo strumento di Cristofori ci allieta con la sua musica. La cache è nascosta vicino all’entrata del Conservatorio Cherubini a Firenze.
Siete in una delle più frequentate zone di Firenze, tra la Galleria dell’Accademia dove c’è la statua originale del David di Michelangelo, il Conservatorio Cherubini e l’Opificio delle Pietre Dure dove c’è la scuola di restauro dei dipinti. La cache pertanto è nascosta molto bene, è sotto gli occhi di tutti, ma è ben camuffata, sarà necessaria tutta la vostra scaltrezza di esperti geocachers per trovarla!
The Paduan Bartolomeo Cristofori is the inventor of the Pianoforte. The instrument was invented in Florence when Cristofori was since 1690 at the duty of the Grand-Duke of Tuscany Ferdinando de’ Medici, as manufacturer and maintenance attached of musical instruments, among which there was the large collection of harpsichords of the Grand-Duke, thanks to which he could have plentiful of material to perform his art. Cristofori had the idea to replace the plectra of the harpsichord with little hammers and improve the mechanics with the “escapement” to release the keys when the string is struck. Cristofori named his instrument “Gravicembalo con il piano e il forte”. Of such invention, dated maybe 1709, was given great report in 1711 on the journal “Giornale dei Letterati d’Italia”, the most important publication of that time. The instrument was appeciated by musicians like Scarlatti and Haendel who made easier its diffusion, specially in Germany, J.S. Bach too knew it and suggested to Cristofori some modifications to improve the sound. Of the about 20 pianos manufactured by Cristofori only two survive: one is in Rome (Museo Nazionale degli Strumenti Musicali) and one in Leipzig (Musik Instrumenten Museum der Universität). In the Galleria dell’Accademia, placed in Florence near the Acedemy of Music Cherubini, is preseved the first instrument manufactured by Cristofori: an oval spinet of 1690. So it is about 300 years that the instrument of Cristofori cheers us with its music.
You are in one of the most crowded areas of Florence, among the Galleria dell’Accademia where is the original statue of David of Michelangelo, the Conservatorio Cherubini and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure where is the school of restoration of the paintings. So the cache is very well hidden, it is exposed to the eyes of everybody, but it is well camouflaged, you will need all your skill of expert geocachers to find it!
