Cache is an Ammo Box in the delightfully named spot of Sally's Bottom.
On the Cornish Coastal path, this is a wonderful little bay. We were watched all the time whilst looking for a suitable location by the resident seal, who can often be seen in the bay. This is a great resting place for walkers, you can sit by the waterfall and watch the sea, the birds on the nearby island and the beach. Although the place has a name that every school boy would love to joke about, I think it comes from the mine above it (the Bottom Shaft). Just to the north of the stream there is a miners or smugglers path carved into the cliff which would get you down to the beach if you had sufficient ropes and courage.
Nearest Parking is at Porthtowan, The coastal path follows a single track road to the west (off West Beach road by the pub) and goes behind the engine house and hotel. There is no path direct from the beach.
For cache and dashers, there are no nearby roads, although you could get a mountain bike to the top of the cliff nearby, here you would have to leave it and descend the 115 steps (170 foot) on the path. Its a logical place to rest up if walking between Porthtowan and Portreath (or vice verca). Shelter from the wind to find cache. The steps have raised some comments in the logs, aparently these are made of Portuguese Marble, quite why it was brought here is a mystery to me!
