Geocache Description:

The Geocache Castle

This is our first cache…Located in the Curwood Castle Park, right on the Shiawassee River.

The boys chose the name and the location- hoping that those new to Owosso will enjoy this little gem in Shiawassee County. The park is really enjoyable, especially during the summer, with access to the Shiawassee Arts Council and Curwood Castle.

You can park next to Dollar General on Main Street or park downtown and take the quick 5 minute walk. BEWARE OF MUGGLERS!!!

Curwood Castle is a castle/museum that was built in 1922 and was home to author James Oliver Curwood. James Curwood was born in Owosso in 1878. He built this chateau near his home in Owosso between 1922 and 1923. He used the great room to entertain guests, including movie producers, and the largest turret as his writing studio.

A hunter/conservationist, Curwood was appointed to the Michigan Conservation Commission in 1926. He died a year later at age 48. In his will, the Castle was given to the City of Owosso. It has served in various capacities over the years and is now a museum operated by the city.
Curwood Castle is open to the public Tuesday though Sunday afternoons.

The Shiawassee Arts Council is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that sponsors and encourages participation and appreciation of the arts in our mid-Michigan community. Open Tuesday-Sunday 1-5pm (No admission/Public welcome), they can be reached at (989) 723.8354
