This is a follow-up cache to the Washington Cemetery CITO event held June 7, 2009 (GC1QNKH)
Washington Cemetery
When eighteen year old George Lamley drowned in 1895, his parents Job and Sarah laid him to rest in the orchard of their hilltop farm. After the death of her husband Sarah donated the land for community use. Originally called Riverside Cemetery, it later became known as Washington Cemetery and this lovely spot gradually became the final resting place for local pioneers. But as the years passed and a larger cemetery was developed a few miles away, it fell into neglect. Several markers toppled over, some lay under fallen trees, countless others were hidden in the undergrowth. Sadly the old wooden markers of the Lamley family and many others are gone... There are several unmarked sites, we don't know who rests in them.
A crew from the Naselle Youth Camp has recently whacked down the heavy underbrush and removed some fallen trees. And on June 7th a great bunch of folks met here for a CITO event. A lot of clean up was accomplished, but some individual sites could use ongoing attention...
So please, while you're here, pick a plot and spend a few minutes fixing it up. Be sure to mention the name of your adopted pioneer in your log.
The cache
The above coordinates will bring you to one of the more prominent markers in the cemetery... The pioneer resting here is said to be a veteran of the civil war and possibly a relative of the town's founder.
Note his birth date... Nov ___ ,1835
That number plus 927 equals XXX
That number plus 029 equals YYY
N46 41.XXX.... W123 44.YYY
Please...
Out of respect for the area and the neighbors...
Don't do this after dark.
