How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The fence post hide comes in two styles – in this case it is the style where the post cover holds the caches. Typical for a 35 mm or Rx pill container to be inside. Be careful when taking the lid off not to yank too hard and pull the container off the cap.....

As a new Geocacher I saw comments in logs about how "this was a quick and easy find" only to get there and spend a long time trying to find the same cache? Later, after I had cached for a while, I found myself posting “Quick and Easy hide, thanks” ….. so I guess some of the basic "urban" hides are quick and easy - once you have done one like it before.

I thought I would do a series on types of caches out there and give examples for any new cachers. Included will be some of the more basic camo styles. I copied a lot of this information off (visit link) a great resource for beginning Geocachers.

I will bookmark all Geocaching 101 caches, then add a mid-term and final cache. (Bookmarks can be found on the right hand side of this posting, and at the bottom of the bookmark you can create a query of all listed caches to download to your GPSr - another thing I've learned the hard way.)
Once you have completed this series I will list you on the final as graduated - with or without honors....... (I will track and list the first 15 graduates only)

There are many different types of micro containers used in hiding a cache and in this series I will be demonstrating several different styles.

While you are here take a look at the little picnic area someone developed for the locals - nice place to get out of the office and enjoy lunch outside.

As in all caching, remember Geocache Etiquette
1. Don’t leave blank space in the logbook. Use all available white space, including the back of each page. Use a line to separate your entry from the one above it
2. Replace log back in Ziploc as added protection
3. If cache contains pen, please leave and let owner know if it runs dry
4. Reseal the container tightly to keep out moisture
5. Rehide carefully, better than you found while remaining true to the GZ and Hint. If there is a concern about the GZ share it with the owner and let them decide if it GZ needs moved.

Congrats to sd-weiss for being FTF
