Geocache Description:

Just off the freeway. Dirt road, easy access as the road department fixed a serious dip adjacent to the cattle guard. Churchill County's first newspaper was printed here.

A post office was here from 4 Jun 1879 to 15 Jul 1909. The Utica
Bullion Mining Company operated the Desert Crystal Salt Company
which had its operations at White Plains.

White Plains even had a newspaper, the Churchill News. Nearby is a
Trails West marker referring to the "Alkali Plain". As the marker
states: :"Passed over a dreary...dusty alkali road. Passed many
cattle and mules which had given out & were dead or left to
die. Having had no sleep for some nights...almost fell from my mule
frequently." William E. Chamberlain Aug 5, 1849
