An inside ammo can!
The best thing about Geocaching, to us, is finding those undiscovered treasures we wouldn't have known about otherwise. We've found everything from old pioneer cemeteries to obscure historical markers and just about everything in between.
We're placing this cache here with the permission and encouragement of the owner where the cache is placed.. While you're getting the cache, take some time to walk around and check out this wonderful, old building!
The building itself houses a lot of history. It's Masonic Lodge #666, built in 1921 in Irvington, certainly a number that is the subject of much conjecture.
In addition to being a former Masonic Lodge, it also was the headquarters for the National Horse Thief Detective Agency. The lodge no longer assembles here, and the building is home to an antique shop, music studio, bookstore, and art gallery.
The building has a long standing reputation of being haunted, and more than one person has been scared off of the premises by something that goes "bump in the night".
The cache itself is safely tucked away inside, away from the weather, where everything is warm, safe, and dry, away from the weather.
The cache is an ammo can stocked with various kinds of swag, and the FTF prize is a signed copy of a book called "Tales From the Heartland", which was written by a local cacher.
The area where the cache is located, is open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons and evenings, as well as Sunday afternoons. Simply follow your GPS to the door, and let your Geo-Sense take over.
Here is a phone number you can use to check and see if the cache is available at any given time: 317-375-3715
Happy caching, everyone, and enjoy your trip to Irvington!
