Geocache Description:

this is a short drive up the south fork of the toutle river, once you cross the bridge over the river the park is on your left, this is the first of a few caches I hope to place in this park once construction is finished, campsites will soon be available.cache is not far from the bathroom but NOT in the rock wall, cache is medium size round, please re-hide well as muggles are about...

"Toutle" the name was derived from a local Indian tribe the "hullooetell"
according to "origins of Washington place names" the toutle river was at one time called the east fork of the cowlitz by early settlers, when the area was surveyed by railroad surveyors they listed it on there map as the "seh-quu" thankfully the present name was restored in 1856,
ever wonder why the local school is called toutle lake when there is no toutle lake. well two reasons as I am told, in the early years the lake was called toutle lake but the name was settled on when the silver lake school merged with the toutle school and they combined the name
I was told that the property for the harry gardner park was donated as a park by the gardner family which as been around toutle area since before 1883 when napoleon gardner est. the first post office.he and both his sons served as post masters.

Congratulations to cascadesclimber and geomimi55 for FTF.
