Silvermine River

This easily accessible cache, a small screw-capped plastic pot, is hidden in the lower part of the beautiful Silvermine Valley Trail which starts at the Sunbird Centre just off Ou Kaapseweg (M64) and connects up with the multiple Silvermine East trails (and caches!). It may also be conveniently combined with several other caches in the immediate area.
To Reach the Cache Location:
Park at the Sunbird Centre and proceed to the signpost and trail start at S 34 06.672 E 018 24.513. Follow this path down, across the river then up and around to the left at S 34 06.698 E 018 24.647.
Continue to S 34 06.501 E 018 24.555 and then take the small path heading west and down towards the river, some 75m away.
Cross the river at S 34 06.497 E 018 24.513 using the rocks and (somewhat wobbly!) stepping stones. Climb up the western bank and head approx 8-10m for the gap at the back of an overhanging rock.

Notes:
1) Access to this trail is free but the gate off Ou Kaapseweg is only open from 08h00-17h00
2) Please take special care leaving and joining Ou Kaapseweg at this dangerous junction – making sure you look out for fast moving traffic coming down around the bend.
3) The cache was placed prior to the start of the main rainy season and the extent of change of level of this (small) river after substantial rains is not known - so you may have to either paddle/wade across to reach the cache!
