Geocache Description:

Inspired by the C.O.D. series (Curiosities of Derbyshire), this is another in the C.O.S. series (Curiosities of Staffordshire) and is a sequel to GC1JZXP C.O.S. Nun's Well that ends well (#1)

The two caches can be joined together to make either a linear walk or a 1.5 mile circuit through a mix of open heathland, fields (with horses), a lovely wood, the village of Cannock Wood and passing the Curiosity that is the Nun's Well.

Cachers going from one cache to the other will need to cross 4 stiles and use a permissive path through a field that may contain horses - though they seem friendly enough.

Near the cache site and alongside the waymarked footpath to the Nun's Well is also a lovely (but, unfortunately, private) wood.

There are two possible start points to the cache:
Nun's Well carpark OR the entry to the public footpath on Hayfield Hill (if parking please be considerate of local residents).

As of 07/05/09, the car park is STILL closed but this doesn't mean the site is closed - park where you can and have a happy hunt - Good Luck!

THE NUN'S WELL

Beyond the cache site, you can see the oak tree that covers the Nun's Well (co-ords below) that gives this area its name. You can access it via a permissive path and a couple of stiles. TIP: Take a torch if you want to see inside.

Local legend has it that hundreds of years ago, an unfortunate nun was once pushed down this well, with the well promptly being covered up.
Supposedly, years later, farm labourers uncovered the well and her phantom appeared before them. The well has since become overgrown by a tree, although a chasm is still visible between its roots.

There are also other historical sites visible here; the reputed site of Redmore Abbey, a fish pond for the abbey and a moat.

PLEASE LEAVE THE CACHE WELL HIDDEN.

Congratulations to andycpuk for the FTF!!
