A short tour of Thredbo. (Updated 10 January 2019)
The cache is (sadly) not in Thredbo!! It's along to road back to Jindabyne. You will have to visit Thredbo, collect some information, solve the coordinates for GZ and find it on your way home (as long as home is towards Jindabyne)!
It should take less than an hour to do the walk around the village.
We wanted to place a cache in Thredbo for some time. However, at the time of placing, the NSW Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change (DECC) had a policy of prohibiting caches being placed in National Parks. This has since changed and there is a policy in place but placing a cache in the Park involves navigating some serious bureaucracy! So, GZ remains just outside the Park on the way back to Jindabyne.
Anyway, back to Thredbo. The tour will take you to some interesting places in Thredbo. Only the north and south fractionals change around the village.
At WP1 - “Serenity” (start coordinates) look for eight digits.
These will be A to H.
Solve for WP2 (fractionals): South (H)(F-E)(H) East (A)(G-C)(A)
Go to WP2 - “Recharge” and find the "Code" number (four digits).
This will be I to L.
Solve for WP3 (fractionals): South (I)(I+K+L)(I-K) East (L-K)(L-I)(I-K)
Go to WP3 - “Exertion”. Count the steps going up the hill. (We regularly climb these steps and we made a game of counting them then arguing over the answer!) (While WP3 is out of action you will need to "count" 141 steps virtually! Good luck!)
This will be M to O.
Solve for WP4 (fractionals): South (2xM)(M)(2xN) East (M+N)(O-O)(M+N)
Go to WP4 – “Reflection”. Find a date on a sign. Convert to 8 digits (ie. convert month to two digit number).
This will be P to W.
Now you can calculate GZ and find the cache on the way to Jindabyne:
South 36 (H)(D).(V)(H+P)(Q)
East 148 (I)(W).(E)(N)(U)
