Geocache Description:

Sct. Alberts kirke

Dansk

At Vejsnæs Nakke on the southernmost part of Ærø you will find Sct. Alberts Church. Here you can see a restored rampart from the Viking Age. The installation measures approx. 60x30 meters and consists of an up to three meter deep grave and a powerful defense wall. The date of the installation is supposed to be around year 1000 a.d. In the 1300s, it was transformed into a significant church on site. Around the church are also found burial sites. At the site of archaeological excavations, was found a large number of coins dating from the church's time of use from the mid-1300s until the 1536 reformation, where the church was closed and gradually broken down.

Even though the treasure hunt does not lead you to the installation, we strongly encourage you to go there.
