Geocache Description:

Skullyville was founded in 1832. The first Choctaw Agency in the west was established here. Major F.W. Armstrong was the agent. The name Skullyville is derived from the Choctaw word “Iskuli” which means a piece of money. When the Butterfield-Overland Mail route was established between St. Louis and San Francisco in 1858 this was one of the stage stops. It has always been rumored that the stage was robbed here and the outlaws stashed the money nearby and it was never found. If you travel a little further north you will find a flowing spring that has a pipe in it so you can get a drink of really good cold spring water right on the side of the road. Please park in the gravel parking area. No vehicles are allowed in the cemetery due to the hundreds of unmarked graves. Enjoy your walk through this historical area. On the north side of this cemetery is another small unkempt cemetery. Have fun and enjoy the area. If the cache needs attention please let me know..
