Geocache Description:

The Greyton to McGregor trail is a poplar walk among hikers. I thought it was time that some geocachers did the walk too. It is one of the really special walks available to hikers in the Cape.

The trail is often done by walking in one direction, over-nighting in one village then hiking back the next day. The total distance to the Backpacker's Lodge is said to be 14km but our GPS recorded less than 13km and walking time was 3.5 hrs for the whole route to the lodge. (We didn't start walking fom the village but from the end of Nerina St.)
Oakes Falls is on the route and is a popular swimming pool during the summer. The Falls are about 8km from Greyton and 5 km from the Backpacker's Lodge at Die Galg.
During winter and spring the fynbos puts on a spectacular display.
Although the total distance is longer, probably the best way to visit the cache only is to walk from Greyton to the Falls and back.
Parking is available at the bottom of Nerina Street in Greyton or at the Die Galg 14km SE of McGregor. A permit is required - obtainable from Cape Nature or Greyton Tourism. The cost per person is R25.
The cache is a white tubular container with a screw top and is not suitable for large trade items - geocoins and TBs are unlikely to move from there since high traffic density is not expected.
