Geocache Description:

A family-friendly cache hidden along the Patterson Trail in historic Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, south of Summersville, West Virginia.

To get the the park from U.S. 19, go west on State Route 129 for about 5 miles. Then turn left onto Carnifex Ferry Road. From there it is one mile to the park. There are several places to park, but the one closest to the cache is where Patterson Trail crosses County Route 23 (Eakin Road). You will see a large gravel parking area beside the road and trail signs on either side of the road just to the west. The hiding place is only a short distance from here.

The cache is in a 1 liter Lock & Lock type container with an orange West Virginia State Parks "Official Geocache" sticker. Initial contents are: a flasher reflector, lighted keychain, 2 glass "gems", toy dinosaur, 2 facial cream samples, cell phone case, fire safety ruler, insect repellent buttons, 2 wheat cents in holders, and a log book with pen.

SPECIAL NOTE: The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources discourages off-trail hiking in state parks as it negatively impacts the environment. This cache is hidden no more than 20 feet off the trail, so please refrain from taking shortcuts or engaging in unnecessary bushwhacking during your search.
