Built in 1999, the Sky Stadium (formerly the Westpac Stadium) quickly acquired the nickname "The Cake-Tin", for reasons obvious from this vantage point! Home to the Hurricanes, regular host to the Rugby 7s, and venue for concerts, the stadium provides a sporting and cultural focal point for the capital.
But the stadium hasn't always been here. These photos show the view from near this spot around 1985. Yes, these are real photos taken on 35mm film!
The Cache
This is a very busy road, so stealth is required. The cache is a micro with a log sheet and small pencil and a very strong magnet. Did I mention it has a strong magnet? In your online log, feel free to note your sporting alleigance and/or historical snippets about the Pipitea area. Go the HURRICANES!!! Even one-eyed perspectives are welcome...
Getting Here
If heading up the hill, you may find it safer to turn right into Barnard St to park. Please be aware that many of the streets around Wadestown are narrow and steep.
