Geocache Description:

An urban magnetic nano-cache reachable by all. Please bring your own pencil as the cache is far too small to carry its own! Please also be quick and very stealthy as it's near some flats.

On 15th. January 1959, Tyne Tees Television was launched as the regional ITV station for the North East of England. Two furniture warehouses on City Road were purchased in 1958 and converted into studios which would remain in use until 2005.

In 1981 a fifth studio was added with a glazed arcade as its entrance way- this arcade became known as 'The Tube' due to its appearance on the national Channel 4 music show of the same name which was made at City Road and presented by Jools Holland and Paula Yates. Other shows made by Tyne Tees over the years included the game shows Chain Letters and Cross Wits along with the children's shows Supergran and Razzmatazz- not forgetting the regional news, sport and other regional features.

The station went through a series of mergers, demergers and takeovers, eventually becoming part of ITV plc. In 2005, ITV decided to move the station to new, smaller facilities at The Watermark in Gateshead (near the MetroCentre) and the City Road Studios closed.

Since 2005 the site has been used for various purposes. Studio 5 became a church for a while but the bulldozers moved in 5 years later. ITV Tyne Tees continues to produce a small amount of regional content from its new base in Gateshead.

Faded evidence of the classic Tyne Tees logo could still be seen from the cache site when I first placed this cache; alas little evidence of the TV station being here now remains except for the geocache which bears its name.

Think laterally with the hint.
