P O P S - 1185 6th Ave.

POPS stands for Privately Owned Public Space and these spaces can be found throughout NYC. I noticed the tree symbol at several areas while scoping out cache locations and did some investigating. Here is an excerpt from the nyc.gov webpage talking about these POPS. Click on the following link for more info: nyc.gov POPS webpage The 1961 Zoning Resolution inaugurated the incentive zoning program in New York City. The program encouraged private developers to provide spaces for the public within or outside their buildings by allowing them greater density in certain high-density districts. Since its inception, the program has produced more than 3.5 million square feet of public space in exchange for additional building area or other considerations such as relief from certain height and setback restrictions.

This cache is located in a park that is found behind 1185 6th Ave. A nice lunch time destination, it is a nice spot to relax and watch the people go by.
Look for this white tag on the wall and you will be at GZ.
