Geocache Description:

This cache is a preform container with a log only located just outside a local cemetery.

** Update (8-16-10) changed coords and container due to someone muggling the ammo box **

In 1910 a young girl was buried in a homesteader's field. She was the daughter of a couple traveling west who had stopped because of the child's illness. Since there was no public cemetery, Will Dunnam offered a burial site in the northeast corner of his field. Thus, the first grave in what eventually became Prairie Haven Cemetery was made. Will Dunnam obtained the 320 acres of homestead land on which the cemetery is located in 1909. Will established his homesite a few hundred feet west of the present cemetery. His first wife died on April 3, 1911, and was buried near the previous grave. Soon afterward, Will opened a public cemetery at this location. The cemetery was officially dedicated as the "Dunnam Cemetery" on June 15, 1932. The city of Hobbs purchased the cemetery with 10 acres on May 5, 1947, and the name was changed to "Prairie Haven Cemetery" in August, 1947. Original cache contents include a small adjustable wrench, a toy Madagascar ring, a marble, gun lock, barbie, bracelet, a Kennedy half dollar, pedicure kit, and emery boards.
