Geocache Description:

After all the times I have visited Ardrossan I didn't know this beautiful spot was here, so thought it was a good place for a cache

A jetty was constructed in 1878 to accommodate the steamships and windjammers used to ship grain from the local farmers across the Gulf of St Vincent to Port Adelaide.
After the depression in the 1930’s the open cut mine was opened by BHP in 1950 and a new mile long jetty was built further along the coast to accommodate the larger ships to transport the dolomite out of Ardrossan. Since then the harbour has been developed not only for the export of dolomite but for grain and salt exports also.
Since then the old jetty has become very popular with local fishermen and is now used for recreation purposes only.
