Geocache Description:

When visiting or living in the San Luis Obispo area one must put a hike to the top of Cerro San Luis on their list.

A cache on top of Cerro San Luis has long been needed as I feel it is a destination that all must make and a great place to swap out trade items on a regular basis. Plus I hope it motivates people to make this a regular hike for fun and exercise and to stop by and see what the latest addition to the box is. For those visiting the area the hill is also know as Madonna Mountain and you will see a large M on the hill for identification. I generally park in the newly refurbished parking lot as you take the entrance to the freeway heading south on Marsh Street. You will pass under the overpass and make your next right before getting onto the freeway and park in the designated areas. Follow the trail at the end of the parking lot and stay to your left (main trail) as you climb the trail. You will reach a very steep section when the trail splits again and there will be signs to go left (up the hills) or right to continue on the lemon loop. Stay left again and climb the steep trail and then turn left again and start your journey around the hill passing through 2 gates. In a short while you will reach a junction with a dirt road. Turn right onto the dirt road and this will take you to the top, there are many ways to approach this cache but this is the easiest. The cache is not on the very top of the hill I wanted to make it really accessible and away from muggles, so I placed it a short distance away from the primary peak, but a quick journey up to the very top requires only some boulder scrambling. Retrace your steps or go after the Rock Garden Cache. There are two multi-stage caches on the way up if your want to make a bigger day out of it.
