Geocache Description:

I was surprised to discover that this park did not already have a cache, so it seemed like the perfect location for my very first cache. Park in the designated area and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park to reach the cache location. (No bushwacking required.) The cache is a camo'd, 2-quart plastic container with a logbook, pen, and the usual swag. First time finder gets a brand new Space Shuttle Traveler.

W. Lansing Gleason Park is a 27-acre park in Indian Harbour Beach on the corner of South Patrick Drive and Yacht Club Boulevard. It has a boardwalk overlooking a lake, gazebos, paved walking/exercise trail, playground areas and picnic facilities. The Community Services Center offers beach volleyball, horseshoes, shuffleboard courts, and a heated competition sized swimming pool. The million dollar Algonquin Sports Complex (off Wimico Drive) has lighted baseball, softball and soccer fields.

The Gleason Family came to Florida from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in the post-Civil War period and played a significant role in the development of Florida's agricultural, commercial, and residential lands. William Lansing Gleason was the grandson of William Henry Gleason, who served as Florida's Lt. Governor from 1868-1870 (during reconstruction at the end of the Civil War), and was the founder of the town of Eau Gallie. William Lansing Gleason served as Eau Gallie’s mayor in the 1930s, and co-founded Indian Harbour Beach in 1955. He was involved in the local community and donated the coquina rock slab that the first school house in Brevard County now sits on at the Florida Institute of Technology campus. William Lansing Gleason also donated the money for the auditorium at Florida Tech, which is named after him.

Congrats to JGKG2009 on your first FTF on my first hide!
