Before there was a Shirley AR there was a community called Settlement. This was before the M &NA Railroad came through (circa 1912) and the town moved to have a depot on the new line. Settlement with it's hotels and other business ceased and later became a part of the new town of Shirley, but Settlement Cemetery continues. Many of the founding families remain in the area today with their forefathers lain to rest in this well kept Van Buren County cemetery. As you stroll through the grounds with it's huge trees notice that veterans from many eras and branches of the armed forces are here. Please maintain the solitude and beauty of this place.
