9th Annual Kansas City Area Picnic Event Cache

Calling all geocachers far and near to the 9th annual Kansas City area picnic. In the past, we have had great attendance and hope we will again this year. Please put this cache page on your watch list. We are getting things organized and as time approaches there will be more information.

Baumgardner Park is located across the street from the Blue Springs High School and is next to the Centennial Pool-Plex. Extra parking is available in the pool area parking lot. Playground and restrooms are nearby. The shelter can seat 120 people. Again, bring your lawn chairs, canopies and make yourselves comfortable. The area around the shelter is fairly level. If you have long tables to share for the food line, that would be appreciated. The Parks Department asked that there be no alcohol. Dogs must be on a leash and not in the shelter area.

We can't call it a real picnic without one of the picnic meat staples, hot dogs, hamburgers, or fried chicken. We’ll try something different and have fried chicken for our meat entrée this year. The money that was netted from the coin auction at last years picnic and other contributions will offset the cost. A donation jar will be at the registration table to cover remaining costs. As in the past, bring your favorite dish to share to compliment the fried chicken. There is a great possibility that in August, in Missouri, it could be a hot, humid day. Don’t forget coolers of tea, lemonade, soda, water and ice. Plates, cups and utensils will be provided.

Activities?? This is your annual picnic. We want you to have a good time and make it a success. We have some creative minds in our caching community. We welcome your help and ideas for games etc. for the kids and adults. Some of you have attended other events and picnics. Copy their ideas. They won’t object. Get those juices flowing.

Some activities scheduled:
        GEO BINGO – Get to know your fellow cachers
        CACHES – Permanent and some temporary kiddie caches
        COINS – Buy, sell, trade (bring your own tables)
        DRAWINGS – Donated items are always appreciated

CONTEST: We will again have an annual picnic t-shirt. Money cleared helps defray picnic costs. We are opening it up for all cachers to submit your t-shirt designs and one will be chosen from the group. Please have your entry in by July 15th. A prize will be awarded to the winner (maybe a free t-shirt).  T-Shirt orders must be in by August 1st. Pick up and payment will be on picnic day ONLY. Prices and sizes will be comparable to last year. Stay tuned for more details and changes.
