Earl Heck Community Center
Known originally as Harrisburg School - Randolph Township Subdistrict No. 4, parts of this building date to 1867. It was enlarged to a three-room graded school in 1880 (the south and east sections). Three teachers taught primary, intermediate and principal classes, grades one through eight. From 1901 through 1913, local high school classes also met in this building. With the construction of a new township high school in 1913, and a new Englewood grade school in 1924, the old school building was no longer needed. The Englewood Community Club bought the property and used the building for meetings until 1936. During the period 1936-1975, the building, which at that time was painted white, served as the Englewood Municipal Hall. It was named the Earl Heck Community Center in October of 1975, in honor of Heck who was a well respected Englewood historian, school board member, post master and mayor in the 1950s-1960s. The large addition on the north side of the Heck Center was completed in 1993. The City of Englewood, nominated by the Randolph Township Historical Society for preserving the historic character of the building while updating it, won an Ionic Columns historic preservation award from the county in 1999. Today, the Heck Center is the focal point of activities for area senior citizens and private gatherings.

Congratulations to emcee1996 for finding all 15 of my historic Randolph Township caches in a single day! See their March 20, 2010 entry for more info.
Congratulations to BetsyCo, AustenzB and ckap711 for making this their first geocache find!
Cache with confidence! This cache was placed with permission from the City of Englewood. In addition, the Englewood Police are aware of cache placements and have been known to offer hints to geocachers. Awesome!
Important notes:
Look for the cache in daylight hours only. Also, this is an extremely popular location for muggles. Either conduct your hunt at times when they are not there or be extremely stealthy. Please bring a long wire hook as you will need to do a little bit of fishing.
