This is the site of the Clark and Skinner Canal of the 1830s, one of the many that networked across this part of Buffalo--the Venice of the Americas.
This canal was a third of a mile long, paralleling Baltimore Street, now the middle of a parking lot! Look around in this Cobblestone District and it's not hard to see what it was like in the heyday of the Canal. Brick businesses everywhere, elevators to store all the grain traveling east from the nation's Breadbasket. Once this small canal was abandoned at the turn of the century, squatters lived here on rickety houseboats. Now--don't look!--there's a new threat to the health of Buffalo behind you. At certain times, this will be very muggle-heavy. Be stealthy!
