Gibraltar Rock
Gibraltar
Rock is a State Natural Area and as such physical caches cannot be
hidden there. The posted coordinates will take you to WP1, a
commemorative plaque honoring those that settled this area many
years ago. Getting there will require a moderate hike (.6 mi./300
foot change in altitude). The plaque contains three dates that will
be used to obtain the coordinates of the bison tube that is hidden
less than a mile away (as the crow flies).
The dates are:
Surveyed: ABCD
Homesteaded: EFGH
Dedicated: IJKL
Final coordinates = N43 (20000 - KC) W89
(35500 - KC)
After determining the coordinates for the final, go
back to your car and drive to get the cache.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WALK FROM WP1 TO THE FINAL. Bring your own
pencil. The use of the plaque at the summit of Gibraltar Rock for
WP1 has been approved by DNR Conservation Biologist, Thomas
Meyer.
