Geocache Description:

Alhambra Park, Motlah's summertime hangout back in the day. She and her brother and sister and neighborhood friends would walk here all the way from Olive Ave. every summer day.
A very well used park with walking trails, workout stations, tennis courts, wonderful picnic areas, great playground and of course the POOL.

Parks and recreation used to have more money to spend on keeping kids occupied. We took swim lessons, we made keychains, we did pottery, we did pinewood derby here every summer. We also went to grammar school across the street.

Back in those days we'd take shortcuts through alleys and people's yards with no fear. Heck, we'd go all the way across town doing that. If you did it now, you know who they would call!

Alhambra Park used to host "Summer Nights". They have a band shell where during the summer they used to have summer concerts and people took their blankets and beach chairs, bought tacos from the Bun N Burger stand, ate churros and listened to everything from big band to jazz to classic rock to mariachi (always the most popular). It got so popular that they made it a weekly street fair moved it downtown to 2nd St. and called it "Summer Jubilee".

New next month will be the dedication of the Veteran’s memorial on the Northwest corner of the park. A serene setting with meandering paths, abundant plants and trees, seating, and a special water feature – a constantly flowing water fall – all encouraging a sense of rest, reflection, and respect. The waterfall, and the flag pole, upon which the American Flag and a POW-MIA flag will fly, will be lighted 24/7. It is beautiful!

Plan to attend the dedication Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 9 a.m.and pay tribute to our veterans, and, anytime you’re in the neighborhood of Alhambra Park, spend some time within the bounds of the peaceful memorial, giving thanks for the vigilance that has preserved our nation and provided us with the freedoms we enjoy so much.

This cache is being placed here in honor of all cancer victims and survivors who will participate in May 16th cancer relay held here every year. Motlah usually has a team booth decorated with BRAS.
