Cheesden Brook 7, is a small geocache located in the Cheesden Valley.
Cheesden Brook rises on the slopes of Scout Moor and then flows down stream until it meets the River Naden and the combined watercourse flows into the River Roch. On its journey it goes through moorland, and then the Cheesden Valley. The valley is one of the hidden gems of Lancashire. In years gone by it was busy with industry and there were plenty of mills in its depths, though now nature has taken over again.
The nature of the valley changes near to Cheesden Brook 7, here the valley narrows and the sides get steeper with some cliffs being present. The cache lies amongst the remains of what was Birtle Dene Mill, all of which has now been overtaken by nature. In the past this was the scene of a cottom mill and there were numerous workers cottages nearby.
To get to the cache site follow the footpath down from the valley top, do not try and take a direct line, as the hillside is steep with cliffs present.
It can be wet, slippy and rough underfoot so please be careful.
If you are walking down the whole length of the valley, or just doing a couple of caches, I would recommend using the public footpath that goes past Cheesden Brook 10, this takes you to the Ashworth Road and avoids the steep sided valley which can be very muddy and slippy.
