Geocache Description:

Eas na Caillich (The Witch's Waterfall)
These falls on the Keltie Water are one of a series of caches located at waterfalls in Central Scotland. These were inspired by my visits to waterfalls over the past 20 years, which were motivated by Louis Scott’s book The Waterfalls of Scotland : 1987. I have chosen waterfalls that are less well-known whilst still being worthwhile visiting for their differing qualities.

Park at the top of the forestry access road and a short walk down this takes you to a bridge over the Keltie Water.
A track on the other side heads south above the river gorge where the river tumbles over a series of waterfalls to rush through a narrowing to fall into a deep pool in an “imposing leap”.

The track above the river is straightforward enough but has an unguarded steep drop so care must be taken especially with children.

The pool at the bottom is known locally as “scout's pool” and is very popular with young people in the summer for swimming.

The adjacent forest has recently been felled and this now gives more light to the gorge.

On August 18 2004 there was a storm centered over this area. Such was the amount of rain that fell within a 2 hour period that small burns became 20ft gorges and numerous bridges were washed away including the one here which has been rebuilt since.
The river rose to 40-50ft higher in the gorge here.
Such was the power of the river that further downstream 100 ton boulders were moved changing the river forever.
Evidence of new rock which collapsed during this spate can be seen below the final fall at the 'Scout Pool'.
