Geocache Description:

A short walk on a good (if sometimes muddy) path around the dam.

The GPS signal can be a little flaky in this area due to the trees.

What is now a small industrial site used to be occupied, first by Moore's Sail Cloth works, and for many years by Clucas's laundry. Both these firms used the water from the river to power their machinery.

A walk around the attractive dam, complete with Ducks and Swans, will show the Sluice Gates still in place.

Clucas was the only Laundry Company in the British Isles which provided houses for its employees. The company owned the whole village of Tromode and the workers occupied all the houses.

They were very proud of the fact that the village was lit by Electricity instead of gas. The electric current for both village and works was generated by Water Turbines which had replaced the Water Wheel formerly used by the Sail Cloth works.

The small cottages were known for many years by their distinctive pink painted exteriors.

Congratulations to Team Simpson IOM, who received the Travel Ingot geocoin as FTF prize!

Please replace the cache as found so that it can not be seen by muggles. Thank you.
