Geocache Description:

This is an easy multicache located in an area rich with history. Enjoy your wanderings and ponder those who have gone before.

Did you know that the Town of DeKalb was named after Johann Kalb otherwise known as the Baron de Kalb of Germany who gave invaluable assistance to George Washington during the revolutionary war?

Another interesting historical tidbit: The hamlet of DeKalb was originally known as Cooper's Village, named after Judge William Cooper who owned a hotel in that place and coincidentally was the father of James Fenimore Cooper, the author.

Judge Cooper was also instrumental in building a grist mill at the nearby falls on the Oswegatchie River and that small settlement just north of DeKalb is known today as Cooper's Falls.

The coordinates above will take you to a plaque upon which is a date. Copy the year of the date and add it to the North coordinate minutes of the dummy coordinates below and subtract it from the West coordinate minutes of these same dummy coordinates. Disregard the decimal point for the purposes of said arithmetical operations. The results will take you to the cache.

Dummy Coordinates;

N 44 28.126, W 075 22.498

The actual cache container is close to but not at the same spot as a previous cache of mine, Pathfinders, which has been archived. Geocachers who found the previous cache are welcome to try for this one. You are looking for a camouflaged ammo container which has a log book and some goodies for trade.

Have fun!

Way to go, Psyrett, for the FTF!
