Geocache Description:

Continuing a series featuring Village Cricket grounds in the Alton area of North East Hampshire

Founded in 1883, Chawton Cricket Club has an idyllic setting close to the church of St Nicholas, Chawton House, Jane Austen House & Museum and the local Pub.

It is a small but thriving village cricket club as they run a Saturday and a Sunday side with fixtures every weekend from mid April to early September.

They play a healthy mix of competitive league cricket with the Saturday side in Regional Division 1 - North and friendly social games on Sundays. Many Sundays are long-standing fixtures, some with other local villages and others with touring sides from further afield.
In addition the club takes part in two midweek evening knockout competitions: the Medstead Knockout and the Guy Jewell Trophy.

They also run a winter side playing indoors in the Alton league and knockout competition, based at the Sports Centre.
