Geocache Description:

This cache is close to the road and not in the woods. You may be looking at it and not even notice it.

One of the many legends of Rogues’ Hollow is the legend of the headless horse. What is now Frase road continued past Clinton Road and curved down into the hollow. It traveled along Ravine Run and passed many different coal mines. The middle of the road was the home of the "ghost oak tree". The oak tree had a low hanging bough. Legend claims that a horse running at full speed lost its head here. People claimed that the horse would often return here on dark nights. The headless horse is rumored to be no less than 18 hands tall. (6 feet) Several people claimed seeing this mysterious headless horse with a variation of seeing the Devil here with glowing red eyes. . The oak tree is long since gone as are the residents who claimed to have seen it.

Please replace the cache carefully.

Most of the information for this cache series has been derived from the book Rogues' Hollow - History and Legends by Russell Frey. I have read this book many times as the stories of the Hollow are fascinating to me. Originally published in 1958 this book was more recently reprinted in 2002.
