"Snelle" oppikker te Gooik, parel van het Pajottenland!“Quick” pick-up cache in Gooik, pearl of the Pajottenland!
In 1786 stierf baron Lancelot Ignace de Gottignies, de laatste heer van Gooik, en nam noodgedwongen zijn wapenschild met 3 zilveren hamers mee in zijn graf daar hij kinderloos was en dus geen opvolgers had.
In 1984 koos de gemeente Gooik er voor om deze hamers op te nemen in het gemeentewapen.
20 jaar later werd dit bijna 4 ton wegende monument opgericht op deze rotonde, vergezeld van een “onverwachte”, onvervalste Belgische regenbui.
In 1786 baron Lancelot Ignace de Gottignies, Gooiks last Lord, died and took his escutcheon, painted with 3 silver hammers with him in his grave. All this because he had no heir.
In 1984 the city of Gooik decided to put these hammers in the municipal coat of arms.
20 years later this nearly 4 ton heavy statue was put on this spot in the pouring Belgian rain.
