Seymour airpark is 12 miles south of the City of Knoxville. It
is 10 miles from both Knoxville’s commercial McGee-Tyson Airport to
the West and the Sevier County airport to its East. Set in a valley
located next to the Smoky Mountains National Park, it has
spectacular views of those mountains. Although we were unable to
find any history for Seymour Air Park, we know that it has been
around for many years.

Designed as a fly-in community, the eventual goal for Seymour
Air Park is to have 3 dozen homes located on or just adjacent to
its 2300 foot manicured grass airstrip. Six are currently built,
and all will have views of the mountains beyond. There are about 2
dozen planes based here, along with an on field flight instructor,
2 training planes, and an “on call” aircraft mechanic is available.
The strip has lights for night landings, along with a VASI approach
indicator.

A well maintained grass runway is a thing of beauty and a joy to
land on, a far smoother transition from the air to the ground than
on pavement. Landing on grass takes you back to the roots of
aviation.
The cache is a medium sized camoed lock-and-lock. Contents are
mostly aviation related. There is a logbook but no pen so bring
yours. The cache is not hidden on the airpark property but on the
highway right of way. You can park by the mailboxes outside the
airpark. Watch out for low flying planes.
