Geocache Description:

Geo13's recent abundance of Richmond County caches (his 'Country Roads' and 'Richmond County Signs' series of caches) has inspired this set of Richmond County caches. Although we have placed caches seemingly all over the state, there's plenty of history right here at home!!

The following was reprinted from 'The North Carolina Gazetteer: A Dictionary of Tar Hell Places' by William S. Powell (Univ. of North Carolina Press, 1968)

Hoffman, a town in Richmond County, was settled in the mid 1870's with the construction of the Raleigh and Augusta Air Line Railroad. Incorperated in 1899 and reincorperated in 1913. Named for Richard C. Hoffman (1893-1926) president of the railroad. Post office was established here in 1878.
