This is one of the places I love.

Looking at Ysterberg (tall ironstone-capped hills called the Ysterberg) consider how high it stands. North koppie 1666 meter and South koppie1745, way above the base of the sandstones. That’s what the faulting has done: it’s pushed everything west of the fault up, relative to the base of the Wolkberg quartzites east of the fault.

Towering above the citrus orchards of Sebetiela are quartzite kranses of the Wolkberg Group that in these parts form the basal unit of the Transvaal Supergroup and which are not found further south. Over to the west is the pair (2) of tall ironstone-capped hills called the Ysterberg, which lies immediately west of the Ysterberg Fault, and is part of the same 3 200 million-year-old Pietersburg Group greenstone belt that hosts the Eersteling gold mine.
