There has been some works at the Reserve recently, putting on new gates with padlocks, and fixing up the building.
This prompted me to do some research and discovered that the BATHURST Local Aboriginal Land Council (BLALC) lodged an Aboriginal Land Claim for the 41 hectares on August 21, 2001 after the Bathurst City Council closed the reserve on 20th July 2001.
The claim went through 8 years of legal battle and in June 2009 the final appeal against the claim was dismissed. As this is now Aboriginal land please "DO NOT ENTER" the reserve.
In its day the "Joseph Banks Nature Reserve" could be found at the top of Mt Panorama.
It operated for 25 years as a 41 hectare flora and fauna reserve and was home to enclosures of different animal, bird, reptile and fish species. Kangaroos, wallabies and emus roamed freely through the reserve, which was open to the public.
The cache is a 35mm film canister and shouldn't prove too difficult to find.
