Geocache Description:

An interesting (as in the Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times") multi-cache on Coffin Butte

This multi-cache is located in the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area, along the Coffin Butte trail off Highway 99 approximately 8 miles north of Corvallis. The hike is approximately 1.75 miles round-trip with an elevation gain of 400 feet. (I bumped up the terrain a half star to account for the possibility that this location can sometimes be somewhat... uh... malodorous.)

The published coordinates will lead you to the first stage, where you will find an ammo box containing the coordinates for the final location. When you arrive, you will have a 2% chance of determining those coordinates. The longer you stay, the more the percentage will increase.

Please be sure to hide the first stage very carefully after you have gotten the coordinates!

The cache container is an ammo box. Initial contents include hand wipes, a deck of cards, and various swag for the kids. FTF prize is a cool world geocaching logo marble. After you have signed the log, please replace it in the plastic bag, make sure that the lid is tightly closed, and hide the container where you found it.

NOTES

  • This area is open from dawn to dusk.
  • Sections of the trail may be muddy and slippery during winter and spring, so I recommend sturdy shoes or hiking boots.
  • The first stage is very slightly off-trail, but you won't need to bushwhack to get to it.
  • Be sure to stop at the signed viewpoint, which is very close to the first stage. On a clear day you will see Mount Jefferson and the Three Sisters.
  • There may be high grass along sections of the trail, so I would recommend long pants.
  • There is poison oak near the trail. However, if you stay on the trail you should not have any problems. I took great care to hide both stages so that you would not have to deal with the nasty stuff.
  • Dogs are permitted, but must be kept on-leash.
  • There may be hunters in this area between September and February.
  • Refer to the parking waypoint for the best spot to begin your trek.

Congratulations to greenwoodturner for being FTF! And congratulations to elenderm for being the first person to experience the TRUE "2% Solution".
