[ENG] A cache in the Martellago lakes

[ITA] Martellago è un comune di circa 21000 abitanti, situato in periferia di Mestre. E' composto da tre frazioni: Martellago, Maerne e Olmo. Probabilmente il paese ha un'origine paleo-veneta, anche se i primi reperti ritrovati nell'area sono di epoca romana. Si ritiene che Martellago facesse parte della centuriazione di Altino, ma in quell'epoca doveva essere poco più che un piccolo villaggio rurale. L'importanza del villaggio aumentò notevolmente nell'Alto Medioevo, quando fu costruita la strada Castellana, che assunse grande importanza commerciale. La strada Castellana assunse infatti una grande importante come via di comunicazione tra Venezia e l'entroterra. Dopo l'anno 1000 dC, a Martellago fu probabilmente costruito un castello dai Trevigiani. Oggi non ne rimane traccia, probabilmente perché agli inizi del secolo XIV il paese fu devastato e conquistato dagli Scaligeri. Nel 1327 Cangrande della Scala, signore di Verona, diede il territorio ai Tempesta, signori di Noale, ma già nel 1339 Martellago cadde sotto il controllo della Repubblica Serenissima. Dopo alcuni anni di guerre e passaggi tra una dominazione all'altra, nel 1389 Martellago entrò definitivamente a far parte della gloriosa Repubblica Veneta. Nei secoli successivi sorsero molte ville, dimore di ricche famiglie veneziane, ma purtroppo al giorno d'oggi rimangono solo poche traccie. Dopo la Rivoluzione francese seguirono anni di occupazioni sia francesi che austriache, finchè nel 1815 Martellago passò definitivamente sotto gli Asburgo, insieme al Regno Lombardo Veneto. Nel 1866 il Comune di Martellago, come tutto il Veneto, aderì con un plebiscito al Regno d'Italia. Il resto è "storia recente".

La cache è nascosta nel famoso parco dei laghetti o delle cave di Martellago. Il parco si trova tra Martellago, Olmo e Maerne e ha due principali ingressi: uno da Martellago e uno da Maerne (vedi waypoint parcheggi). Il parco si presenta come un grande giardino pubblico sub-urbano, con alcune attrezzature per il gioco dei bambini e alcuni laghetti in cui si può praticare la pesca sportiva. Il posto è molto bello e può risultare piacevole per una gita all'aria aperta a contatto con la natura. Vi consiglio vivamente di portare una macchina fotografica, perché è un buon posto per fare birdwatching. Buona caccia! :D

[ENG] Martellago is a village of about 21,000 inhabitants, situated on the outskirts of Mestre. It consists of three little villages: Martellago, Maerne and Olmo. The country has probabily a paleo-Venetian origin, however the oldest ruins are dated at Roman ages. In this period, Martellago was probabily a part of the centuriation of Altino, but it was only a little rural village. The importance of the village increased significantly in the early Middle-Ages, when the road Castellana was built. After the 1000 AD, a castle was built by the Bishops of Treviso. At the beginning of the XIV century, the country was devastated by the lords of Verona. In 1327 Cangrande della Scala, lord of Verona, gave the territory to Tempesta, the lords of Noale. In 1339 Martellago fell under the control of the Serenissima Republic. After several years of war and several different domination, in 1389 Martellago was incorporated into the Venetian Republic. In the following centuries many houses were built as residences of wealthy Venetian families. Unfortunately, most of these were destroyed. After the French Revolution, martellago passed under the French and Austrio-Hungarian control. In 1815 it finally passed under the Habsburgs, with all the Lombardo Veneto Kingdom. In 1866 the City of Martellago, as all the Veneto, passed under the Kingdom of Italy with a plebiscite.

The cache is hidden in the park of lakes, called also quarries of Martellago. The park is located among Martellago, Olmo and Maerne and it has two main parkings: one from Martellago and one from Maerne (see waypoint parking). The park has some playing areas and a number of lakes for game fishing. The place is very beautiful and it can be a good idea to an open-air excursion in the nature. I strongly recommend to have a camera... it is a good place for birdwatching. Happy hunting! : D
