Did you know former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker's family homesteaded in the Borden area?
This cache is a joint hide of DAH265 & Mr. Walker, placed during the Saskatoon Cache and Release 2009 Event. It should not be sought out until after 5:30pm on May 29th and any logs before then will be deleted.
The Diefenbaker's moved from Ontario when John was a child and homesteaded north of Borden just after the turn of the 20th century. The museum has built a replica cabin to commemorate this historical event. The cache is located in an open air, indoor/outdoor museum right in the center of town. Prime Minister John Diefenbaker lived in the area when he was young. There is a replica homestead house of the family. Take the time when you're there to read the plaques on each of the buildings. It's an interesting bit of history that I had never known to exist! The buildings are open June to September.
Some interesting facts
* artifacts of settlement in 1900 in a one- room country schoolhouse & a former Masonic Lodge building
* replica of Diefenbaker homestead, Newbold Butcher Shop, & Munroe barber shop
* brochure depicts village history through its buildings for a self-guided walking tour
Enjoy this little bit of Saskatchewan history!
Cache is a small black container.
