Geocache Description:

Only a few country schools in Saskatchewan can rival the historical significance of this one-room school house.

This cache is a joint hide of DAH265 & Mr. Walker, placed during the Saskatoon Cache and Release 2009 Event. It should not be sought out until after 5:30pm on May 29th and any logs before then will be deleted.

The location is a country one-room schoolhouse where Mr. Walker's Grandpa attended called Halcyonia School (School District # 1237).

Among the Alumni, John Diefenbaker Canada's 13th Prime Minister attended here as a child and his uncle was one of the first teachers here. As well, many former students joined the Royal Air Force to have distinguished careers in the service for Canada in World War II. Local politician, David Orchard, announce his candidacy for Prime Minister in the school during press conference a few years back. Today the building is still being used as a community hall and houses local artifacts and photographs.

The school might be locked, and if this is the case, there is a number on the front door of a lady a half mile down the road where you can get a key to check out the inside of the school.

Check out the images for more interesting info about the school.

Cache is a cammoed lock'n'lock in the bushes around the school.

This cache is dedicated to Mr. Walker's Grandfather, three Great Uncles and three Great Aunts who all attended this school. As well as his Grandmother who taught for one year at Halcyonia.
