Geocache Description:

Beautiful woodland. The trail can be quite muddy, so wellies or a good pair of boots are needed. It would not be suitable for buggies.

Castlemartyr Wood is about 32 km from Cork and 22 km from Youghal, on main Cork-Rosslare route. It has a forest of mature, semi-mature and newly planted trees. The area extends from Castlemartyr village for approx 2 km in southern and westerly directions. The Kiltha River flows through the wood. Parts of an old castle wall are still in the wood, the castle is across the lake adjoining the hotel.

The castle saw tempestuous times. It was owned by the agent of the Earl of Desmond, and in 1581 the Earl of Ormond hanged the agent's mother in sight of the walls. Its several subsequent owners included Sir Walter Raleigh, the notorious Richard Boyle and Murrough (nicknamed The Burner) O'Brien. It's difficult to imagine all that warfare in this peaceful leafy place…

Now the cache.....

Its located off a trail, thats all Im saying, unless you read the clues and totally spoil it for yourself!!

Please note that the cache is located in the forest. Its not on the nearby hotel property.

The car park is open again, maybe just for the summer. It is located on the Castlemartyr - Cork road, just after the village on the lefthand side.
