Geocache Description:

Most local cachers who have been around awhile know this area because of the “Head of the River” cache. It was placed just over seven years ago by two river walk and was one of the first hides in the area. We have driven past these grounds literally hundreds of times but other than to grab the cache we have not stopped. Today I took the opportunity to do a little exploring and have posted some photos of many of the fascinating things I found.

A tour of the area will reveal some unique outhouses, historical markers, informational plaques, and much more. It is interesting to note that while the Head of the River Cemetery holds thousands of graves, across the street the Baptist Cemetery is home to only a handful of markers. As always, please be respectful of the area.

Parking is available on the sandy roads inside the cemetery. Be very careful with young children on Highway 49 as traffic is heavy and cars fly around the bend. The cache is a magnetic key hide and should be a quick, easy grab.

Near the cache is a convenient place to sit and log your find. I knew when hiding the container that the metal cross rods, “The Tie That Binds,” would be magnetic. However, I was also in for a surprise as the entire bench served as an attraction for the lodestone. There is a logsheet and pencil in the container.
