I first discovered this fascinating area by accident whilst
doing my best to search for another cache. The area was home to
several sandstone quarries 100 years ago or more, the area just
above the cache placement is in part all thats left of the Old
Road-West of the quarries.
Found still quite intact are the bridge abutments at S33 46.762
E150 59.585, sandstone retaining walls for the creek and sections
of the original road a little further down, be sure to check them
out whilst down here.
The stonework that has survived here is in itself proof of the
craftsmanship that was used back in the day. I’ve had a hard time
finding history surrounding the workings of the quarries and the
roads and bridges that surround them, however much of the yellow
sandstone used in public and private buildings around Parramatta
and Sydney came from the quarries near here, I plan to update my
history of the area on this page as I learn more.
The cache container is of regular size and is stacked with
goodies for the kids, please remember to swap fair and don’t forget
to check out another nearby cache in
El Guarda
The terrain difficulty is high depending on which side you come in
from so be aware there are high rocky drop offs, Oh and by the way
please tread lightly and hide all footprints and evidence you've
been here and return the camo precisely as you found it
