Geocache Description:

Medium Lock 'n' Lock near a beautiful beach. Nearby find all sorts of great stuff for kids, including tide pools and the Monarch Trees in late Fall and Winter.

Natural Bridges State Beach, with its famous natural bridge, is an excellent vantage point for viewing shore birds, migrating whales, and seals and otters playing offshore. Further along the beach, tidepools offer a glimpse of life beneath the sea. Low tides reveal sea stars, crabs, sea anemones, and other colorful ocean life. The park also includes a large area of coastal scrub meadows, with bright native wildflowers in the spring. Moore Creek flows down to the ocean through these meadows, forming a wetlands in the sand.

Nearby is the the park's Monarch Grove, which provides a temporary home for over 100,000 Monarchs each winter. From mid-October through the end of February, the Monarchs form a "city in the trees." The areas mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove provide a safe roost until Spring. In the Spring and Summer, the butterflies live in the valley regions west of the Rocky Mountains where milkweed, the only plant a Monarch caterpillar eats, is plentiful.

This cache is hidden in the Eucalyptus trees away from the Monarch Resting Area. Take the boardwalk down from the paved road, towards the Monarch trees, but at the bottom, turn right along the dirt path instead of continuing to the Monarch trees. The trail is pretty smooth, but not handicap accessible.

Watch out for poison oak all through this area, even on well traveled paths. This side path is clear, and you won't need to venture into any shrubbery to get to the cache itself. Look uphill as you walk along with the cress-covered pond on your right and a small hill along your left. Step over the fallen tree that crosses the path and hangs into the pond. If you get to the part where you walk uphill on the rock steps, you've gone too far. Look for likely places where you might hide a cache yourself. Cache is a medium Lock 'n' Lock.
