Enjoy the Wild Horses of Kaapsehoop!!
The historic village of Kaapsehoop is a wonderful getaway close to
Nelspruit, with stunning views over the Barberton valley from the
escarpment, and many beautiful wild horses which have been running
wild in the area for about 100 years. There are about 150-200 of
these feral horses, normally found in herds of 3-20. It is believed
that they are descended from horses left behind by the British
during the Anglo-Boer War.
We normally see the wild horses when we visit Kaapsehoop, and some
of them are quite tame and can even be fed by hand. You should
encounter them on the way to the cache, but keep your eyes open -
they are very clever at hiding between the "growing stones".

The cache - it's a green flare container hidden in an unusual
location which you've probably never seen. There are two ways to
approach the cache - the easy way is to find a way onto the
cliff-edge trail 50-100m east or west of the cache. The difficult
way is to follow your GPS - then you can expect some extra terrain
stars!!
Best parking is at the waypoint below, but anywhere in the village
is OK. Expect an easy walk amongst the "growing stones" and
grasslands. The cache is a bit more than a kilometer from the
nearest parking.
