The Cahaba Lily (Hymenocallis Coronaria) is also known as the Shoals Lily in South Carolina and Georgia. The plant grows in the shoals of rivers in the Southeast. The flowers bloom between early May and late June. The flowers usually open late in the day and begin to wither the next day. In most cases only one flower will open each day. The seeds take shelter in the crevices of rocks found in swift-moving currents. The Cahaba Lily Festival is held each year in West Blocton, Alabama. The festival is scheduled for the last Saturday in May. The next festival will be Saturday, May 30, 2009. (See www.cahabalily.com/files/Cahaba_Lily_Flyer_2009.pdf for more info) This cache will take you to an entrance to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge provides a wide variety of compatible, wildlife-dependent, public uses including hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, photography, outdoor education, and interpretation. Canoeing is permitted and jogging and bicycling are allowed on designated roads. No camping is allowed. This was hidden on a rainy day with typical woodland canopy to affect the coords. To assist in the search the following description will help: Park at the information kiosk and walk to the beginning of the gravel road. Take a right at the the "No Booze Allowed" sign and head uphill (no trail) about 80 feet. You should see something that reminds you of the cache name closeby and the container is attached.
